In-bound links from other web sites to yours can provide two separate avenues to success for your site:

First, the number of high-quality in-bound links pointing to your web site is an important factor used by the search engines (including Google) to rank the web pages in their indexes. Attaining lots of in-bound links can help boost a page into the top 10 of a search engine's search results page (SERP) for a given keyword or key phrase.

What is Link Popularity?
Link popularity is the number of links that point to a webpage. Link Popularity is a crucial factor, used by almost all of the search engines to rank websites. Link popularity can be increased by link exchange!
Search engines don't just look at the content of a webpage to determine if it is a good match for a search. Thousands and thousands of web pages contain the same keywords (in different combinations) so matching a search term with a page's content is not enough to build an ordered list of results to a search query.
Search engines also count the number of other web pages that "validate", by linking, that a particular webpage is a good match for a search on certain keywords (link popularity). The text contained in the link that point to a webpage is considered as well. If the text in the link that points to a webpage contains the queried keywords, the search engine considers that webpage a better match to the search query on those keywords.
It is not only the number of the links (link popularity) that counts, but also the "quality" of the links. A link from a good-quality webpage (ranked high by the search engines) matters more than many links from low-ranked web pages.
One of the first search engines that used link popularity as a key factor in ranking websites was Google. One can check the number of links pointing to a website (link popularity) by querying Google with the search keywords "link:http://whateversite.com" (without the red quotes). Most search engines have similar functions for link popularity check.

Second, in addition to the obvious search engine ranking
benefits provided by in-bound links, they also supply a
steady stream of referral traffic to your site! If you are
able to attain a large number of links from high-quality
sites, you'll receive about as much traffic from referrals
as you get from the search engines.

How do I place your code on my webpage?

First, gain access to your webpages. You'll do this either by using a program like WSFTP to login to your site - or by using a web-based program that allows you to access and make changes to your pages.

If you're using a program like WSFTP to download your pages onto your hard drive, you can open them in Notepad, or in a web-editor like Dreamweaver, Homesite or FrontPage.

All of these programs will give you two "views". One will show you what the page will look like when you upload it - complete with colors and formatting. If you've heard of the term WYSIWYG (wiss-ee-wig), it comes from this "view" and is an acronym that simply stands for What You See Is What You Get. The other "view" will show you the HTML coding.

Using the WYSIWYG view, find the area where you'd like to add our code. With most programs, you can paste the code in right there. A little grey box will appear denoting the image. The hyper-linked text won't show until you view it online.

If your program doesn't allow you to paste the code in the WYSIWYG area, you can try "marking" the spot with something like "zzz". Then, go to the HTML view. Perform a search or find using the commands on the new window to find the "zzz" you inserted. Paste our code over the zzz and go back to the WYSIWYG area.

When you are finished, upload the updated page to your site. Test it to be sure that the text and or table shows and that the links to our sites work.

I�m using FrontPage to edit my webpages. When I add the code, all I see is the code. How do I get your table/linked text to show and the link to work?

A. An error may have occurred during the editing process. Follow the steps below and our table/text will display and link to our sites.
1. Copy code to clipboard (CTRL C).
2. Open page in Normal view, place your cursor where you would like the code inserted or the link to be displayed.
3. From the Menu Bar choose Insert/Advanced/HTML which will open a new window called HTML Markup.
4. Paste code (CTRL V) into this window.
5. Hit OK (or if your monitor is fragile click with the mouse).
